New Linium brick
These long thin bricks laid in a way that underlines the horizontal joints, create a dramatic and elongated effect. With a size of 265mm long x11mm high and 82mm deep, these ultra thin bricks offer an aesthetic that can be beautifully assimilated into modern architecture. This style of long thin bricks has become popular with architects and designers, in both exterior and interior applications, as detailing to accentuate horizontal lines.
To complement Ketley Brick’s architectural range and promote the use of Linium bricks in landscaping alongside other Ketley brick and paver products, Ketley launched these new bricks at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024. In this installation Ketley Staffordshire red Linium bricks were laid to provide decorative detail around a circular plinth and were bordered with contrasting Staffordshire blue chamfered cobble pavers (half pavers).
Made from the same Etruria marl clay as all the Ketley range, Linium bricks have very low water absorption and excellent durability making them ideal for exposed situations, such as external walling, extensions, patios and even garden edging, where they will be subject to high degrees of weathering and rising or penetrating damp.
Ketley supply Linium bricks in three Staffordshire colours, blue brindle, brown multi and red.
Case Studies
Linium brick cladding
A 1950's house in Hertfordshire has been remodelled and extended by Dominic McKenzie Architects. The new extension relects the Arts and Crafts styling of the original house. It is clad in Ketley's new Linium bricks and the new roof features Dreadnought's handmade deep red clay roof tiles.
Decorative stacked Linium bricks
Yard Architects took inspiration from Arts and Crafts detailing on lintels and designed a new extension on a London house using Ketley's new Linium bricks as decorative cladding. It was important for the design that thin bricks had no camber and were as flat as possible and Ketley's were ideal for this. A blend of Staffordshire red and brown multi Linium bricks were used to reference the Victorian brickwork on the street side of the house.
Decorative paving detail with Linium bricks
We love to see designers being creative with our products and Ula Maria Studios have certainly done that here in this elegant, residential garden project in Brixton. They used Ketley's new Linium bricks to provide paving detail and combined them with both reclaimed bricks and reclaimed yorkstone.

Laying Instructions
Laying Instructions
Linium bricks can be laid in paving, bedded in using a mix of 1 : 3 cement : sand mortar and then pointed up using flowcrete as for the best effects, its important to keep the thin 11mm face of the brick clean of any mortar. The joint width between tiles should not exceed 10mm in all applications.
When cutting Linium bricks, a mechanical disc cutter is recommended over hand cutting particularly when used in exposed areas, as this will provide a neater appearance and help avoid cracks that can reduce the performance of the thin brick.
